February 7th 2020: Too much money is wasted on repairing old buildings that should be used to knock them down and build new ones.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Every year, the government spends a large budget to refurbish old buildings. This phenomenon has been in controversy for decades whether it is a good or bad habit. Some people argue that too much money is spent on repairing old buildings, and that money should be used to build new ones instead. In my point of view, I partly agree with this statement. After careful consider, I realize that people should maintain those anciently-important buildings. If not, we should rebuild it.
If an ancient building has aesthetic purpose, we should protect it. It is the responsibility of the recent generation to maintain the architectural culture of our ancestors. Today, there are many sites that bring precious value of the past that we must protect and pay money to repair if there is any damage to not only enrich our human culture but also hand down to the next generation. In this viewpoint, spending money for old buildings is no longer a waste but a necessity.
On the other hand, people should be aware when a building is out of date and to build a new one is more appropriate. Many old private house is being repaired annually by the community to save money, but they do not realize that by doing this, they are indirectly putting themselves in danger. Ancient buildings in the past is usually made more concrete and stable than in the present, this is because they are made use of large stone and rock. For example, the Pyramid, an ancient architecture but also one of the seven Wonders of the world, stands the test of time because our ancestors use a special technique for building that nowadays, normal buildings do not have. Repairing an old private building without knowing the internal structure of it is damaged is a high-risk activity. This is the reason why the citizen should spend money to build a new house when it is time.
In conclusion, choosing to repair or rebuild is a hard choice because both need a large amount of money. The decision-maker should have a careful consider before decide whether to build a new house or just refurbish it. The most important thing to keep in mind is safety is always the priority.
